GenAI@KIT: Innovation space for generative AI at KIT
Whether you work in administration, teaching, research or other areas: Generative AI opens up completely new possibilities in daily work, teaching and organization.
With the GenAI∂KIT project , we (ZML, SCC and DO) are creating a development space at KIT that specifically addresses the needs of all KIT employees and those interested in digital teaching and learning processes. The aim is to make innovative AI applications understandable, safe and practical to use and to find out together how these technologies can support us in everyday life and in the further development of the university world.
What will we have achieved in 2025?

The competency module provided on the KOALA learning platform offers KIT employees an introduction to the topic of generative AI. The course teaches fundamentals, discusses opportunities and risks, and demonstrates practical applications – in both German and English.
To Competency Module
The KI Toolbox gives all KIT employees access to various local and external language models (LLMs). There are two separate ways to use them: a web interface for interactive use and an application programming interface (API) for integration into your own applications.
More Information
A clear information platform has been created on the intranet for all KIT employees. Here you will find the current KIT guidelines for the responsible use of generative AI, information on legal and technical framework conditions and on available services and tools.
To Intranetpage
To make it easy to get started, we have collected concrete AI prompts and scenarios for various work contexts, especially for teaching and administration. These templates can be copied quickly, used directly and should help you to gain initial experience even without prior knowledge.
More Information
In target group-specific workshops, the construction of our own AI-supported chatbots for teaching, research and administration was driven forward - e.g. for supporting students, managing information requests or improving internal processes. The results are now being incorporated into the further development of centralized and decentralized AI-based services at KIT.
More Information
We regularly organize webinars on the topic of generative AI: from an introduction to the KI Toolbox to new functions and application scenarios in teaching. Current dates can be found in the ZML event calendar.
