Good online teaching – media-didactic advice and tips

As noted on the homepage, the planning and implementation of online teaching usually requires a lot of time and media-didactic know-how. Unfortunately, this time is currently limited due to the current situation. Therefore, we would like to give you some tips and advice on how you can better prepare and implement your online teaching for the summer semester in a resource-saving manner.

A few tips in advance:

  • KISS: Keep it small and simple: The functional diversity of the possible media and digital tools in combination with the didactic possibilities is enormous. With our information offer and these tips we want to help you to make a reasonable choice.
  • The 15-minute introduction to media didactics: Professor Gabi Reinmann describes in a German video External Link the essential didactic functions that should be harmonized in a digitally supported teaching-learning setting: Content mediation, activation and support.
  • Current introductory course: The Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD), e-teaching.org and the Gesellschaft für Medien in der Wissenschaft (GMW) will start on 15 April with a qualification special "Quickstarter Online Teaching".   • Transparency and redundancy: Both students and teachers are often unaccustomed to working in online teaching-learning scenarios, partly because, for example, content delivery and communication take place in different forms and through different channels than previously used. Take the time to explain these changed structures to students, either in the form of a written explanation or as part of an online lecture/video conference. Delete the phrase "they should be able to understand this on their own" from your vocabulary. Ideally, you should provide the students with information on the structure and course of the course at various points in a redundant and transparent manner.
