GenAI@KIT: Innovation Hub for Generative AI at KIT
Whether you work in administration, teaching, research, or other areas, generative AI opens up entirely new possibilities in your daily work, teaching, and organizational activities.
With the GenAI∂KIT project, we (ZML, SCC, and DO) at KIT are creating a development space specifically tailored to the needs of all KIT employees and anyone interested in digital teaching and learning processes. The target is to make innovative AI applications understandable, secure, and practical to use, and to work together to discover how these technologies can support us in our daily lives and in the further development of higher education.
What will we have achieved by 2025?

The competency module available on the KOALA learning platform provides KIT employees with an introduction to generative AI. The course covers the basics, discusses opportunities and risks, and highlights practical applications—all in both German and English.
To Competency Module
The AI Toolbox gives all KIT employees access to various local and external language models (LLMs). It can be used in two different ways: via a web interface for interactive use and via an application programming interface (API) for integration into custom applications.
More Information
A user-friendly information platform has been created on the intranet for all KIT employees. Here, they can find the current KIT guidelines for the responsible use of generative AI, information on legal and technical frameworks, and details on available services and tools.
To Intranetpage
To make getting started easy, we’ve compiled specific AI prompts and scenarios for various work contexts, particularly for teaching and administration. These templates can be quickly copied and used right away, and are designed to help you gain your first experiences even without prior knowledge.
More Information
In workshops tailored to specific target groups, efforts were made to develop in-house AI-powered chatbots for teaching, research, and administration—for example, to support students, manage information requests, or improve internal processes. The results are now being incorporated into the further development of central and decentralized AI-based services at KIT.
More Information
We regularly host webinars on the topic of generative AI: from an introduction to the AI toolbox to new features and application scenarios in teaching. You can find the latest dates in the ZML event calendar.
