The project "Transdisciplinary and Transformative Sustainability Education" (TTNB) is a concept of the Innovation Campus Sustainability (ICN), a joint initiative of the University of Freiburg and KIT. The Innovation Campus Sustainability pursues the goal of promoting the sustainable development of society at various levels and together with partners from science, business, politics and civil society.
The TTNB project focuses on sustainability education in studies and teaching and aims to strengthen excellent transdisciplinary and transformative sustainability education at universities in Baden-Württemberg. The project is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts as part of the federal-state program "Zukunftsvertrag Studium und Lehre stärken" from October 2025 to February 2028. The project is being implemented jointly by KIT and the University of Freiburg and comprises nine closely interlinked measures. These include the development of a digital teaching and learning laboratory, the establishment of TransImpactHubs, the promotion of networked transformative project seminars, the provision of low-threshold (analog and digital) sustainability teaching offers "to go" and a Season School Sustainability.
Digital teaching formats for transdisciplinary transformative sustainability education
Together with the project partners, we are designing and developing the digital sustainability teaching and learning lab as a central hub for universities in Baden-Württemberg. The aim of the lab is to support lecturers in integrating practice-relevant sustainability and transformation topics into their courses and to enable them to implement transdisciplinary teaching and research formats. We are also involved in the development of low-threshold digital sustainability offerings "to go", which can be easily integrated into different teaching/learning contexts as short, modular self-learning units.
